A wedding album – part one

My oldest nephew married in 2008 and I finished the wedding album this spring. I have no idea how many album ideas  I discarded before I finally got decided and finished the album. When the youngest one married in August I just got to work – clean and simple, just the photos, a few pieces of paper and I finished in a week.

It shouldn`t be so hard to do this. It is not the bride`s album and there is no need to feel it should be perfect. I can understand a bride`s wish to make things perfect but this is an album for the family`s Library of Memories and there is no need for perfection:)

I did have this idea about telling the funny stories from the wedding planning and I do have a few pages finished but there was no room for them in the album so I will add those to the appropriate albums.

When it was time to make the front page I was fed up with it all and picked two photos and glued them down…

It will be years until the next wedding in the family. You could say that I am happy about that but I will miss the buzz and the funny moments of the planning process…

If we did this more often we would be more professional about it? But all in all I think we are feeling good about being done with the weddings for this generation. Hopefully there will be 15 years before the next one:)

Using six kids for flower -“girls” was a crazy idea but looking back this was the most funny part. The kids were invited to bride`s home for training camp two days before the wedding. Not easy to get their attention because they would rather play with the dogs, the cats, the hens or the cows…

Training for the church out there on the farm was the fun part. Training in the church – not so fun. That`s when we got worried. Honestly – I was in doubt:) The fun part of a wedding is greeting friends and family. Love that part…

Most of them came Thursday. We had an empty house where we all gathered. Knowing what we know today we would have invited everyone to stay at Håholmen Havstuer from the start. Too bad we don`t have more weddings to plan:)

Friday afternoon it was time to bring wedding presents and cakes out to Håholmen. The couple had help from the best man. the toastmaster and family. They had to make more than one trip with the viking ship to get all the cakes out to the island…

While the groom and the best man joined the party Thursday night they left the party at midnight Friday night. I bet they had some speeches to refine and some beers to drink…

The weather was unpredictable at midnight Friday but we trusted our friend who had a native Norwegian praying for sunshine during the wedding:) After a week of rain and shitty weather we were  kind of surprised to wake up to sunshine in the morning. It was freezing cold and windy but the day welcomed us wish strays of sun.

The bride woke up to champagne in the morning and it was time to dress for the big day. I bet there will be days she will regret that she didn`t back out of this deal but this morning she was happy and beautiful…

For once in his life the groom was there on time. Waiting there in church I remember thinking – okay, the flowergirls will be a disaster but who cares…they are so cute…

We could hear the buzz from the kids waiting outside and the bride was delayed so for a few moments there was a few nerves showing. The door finally opened showing six happy kids followed by a beautiful bride at her father`s arm…

I think I have said this before but I loved the priest – she gave us a very sweet sermon. And the kids – I have no idea what the bride`s mother said to them but they behaved like angels…

The young couple said their wows with teary eyed parents thinking – where did the years go:)…

…and they kissed and they kissed…

The mother of the bride had arranged a song for the couple as a gift from the bride`s siblings. She sang like an angel and we all cried a few tears…

Outside in the cold wind and the sunshine – receiving congrats…

…from parents, family and friends…

The bride is a horse girl and the groom met his bride’s dearest wish – horse transport after the ceremony. It was the most exciting moment of the day. We did not know if the weather would make it possible to drive the bride in an open carriage. And the bride? She was happy …

We almost forgot to take the photo of the couple and their parents…

Okay – that was part one.

There is no daylight these days so I had to scan the pages. I chose the easy route here but I can see that the scan has lost a lot of sharpness and colors. I might do something about that or not:)

I did:) This was bugging me too much so I did a simple edit.
